Judo is a long established Japanese sport and an Olympic sport since the 1964 Tokyo games.

The word ‘Judo’ translated from Japanese literally means ‘The Gentle Way’ (  柔道 ).

Judo was originally created in Japan in 1882 by Dr Jigoro Kano (嘉納治五郎) as a physical, mental and moral exercise. Described as a modern martial art which later evolved into a combat and Olympic sport.

Popular for its competitive element, whereby the objective is to throw or takedown an opponent to the ground, then immobilize or subdue the opponent with a holdown, or even force an opponent to submit with a joint lock or a choke.

Training in Judo offers a unique physical and mental workout that improves your strength, balance, co-ordination & self-confidence.

Included in the training are various throwing techniques, hold down techniques, arm & joint locks,  & choking techniques for seniors.

One of the unique abilities of Judo is the ability for a smaller person to overcome a larger and stronger opponent with the use of technique and co-ordination.
